How to Watch PGA Championship

By Jim Kimble / Updated May 18, 2022

The PGA Championship begins on Thursday, May 19.

Watching this major golf tournament without cable TV is easy to do.

After reviewing a number of streaming services throughout the year, I believe ESPN+ ($6.99 per month) is the most affordable option for watching the PGA Championship. It also has the most comprehensive coverage. The sports streaming service has three different feeds following golfers during the PGA Championship.

This guide will show all of your options of where and how to watch the PGA Championship, including a free option for part of the tournament.

Table of Contents

  • Where is the PGA Championship being played?
  • What time does the PGA Championship start?
  • PGA Championship Live on ESPN+
  • PGA Championship on Paramount+
  • Watch the PGA Championship for free on a TV antenna
  • Can I stream the PGA Championship live on Roku, Amazon Fire TV Stick or a Smart TV?
  • What streaming service has the PGA Championship?
    • Other Live TV options

Where is the PGA Championship being played?

This PGA Championship will be at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Phil Mickelson is the defending champion. The purse is $2,160,000.

What time does the PGA Championship start?

ESPN+ kicks off morning coverage on Thursday and Friday at 7:45 a.m. ET.

Golf Channel picks up coverage on Thursday starting at 4 PM ET. Along with ESPN+, the Golf Channel will carry all four days of the tournament.

On Sunday, CBS will also broadcast the tournament starting at 3 p.m.

PGA Championship Live on ESPN+

ESPN+ is live streaming 35 tournaments in 2022, including the PGA Championship. Golf fans can watch more than 4.300 hours of live coverage on ESPN+ from January to November.

As part of a 9-year deal with the PGA Tour, ESPN+ has exclusive coverage in the mornings. The sports streaming service also has coverage in the afternoons along with Golf Channel and CBS.

This year, ESPN+ will have three different live streams during the PGA Tour for viewers to watch.

The main feed focuses on each golfer as they play the course. Depending on the day of the tournament, the main feed is available from two to five hours each morning, starting at 7:30 a.m. ET.

Marquee groups include either the best performing golfers based on standings or the top players in the tournament.

Featured groups follow three to four golfers, showing every shot from their round. Featured-hole coverage shows different camera angles of golfers on specific holes.

If you decide to sign up for ESPN+, a subscription costs $6.99 per month. After you sign up for ESPN+ online, activate your ESPN+ account within the ESPN app under the settings wheel.

PGA Championship on Paramount+

Paramount+ will only have coverage of the PGA Championship on Sunday.

If you sign up for the Paramount+ Premium plan, then you can stream local CBS coverage of the PGA Championship. Viewers can go to the “live” tab to watch the local CBS station.

The Paramount+ Premium plan costs $9.99 per month following a free 7-day trial. You can stream local CBS channels through Smart TVs, Roku, Amazon Fire TV and Apple TV.

Watch the PGA Championship for free on a TV antenna

A TV antenna is the best way to watch the PGA Championship for free when it airs on CBS.

If you have a TV antenna handy, but haven’t used it in a while, plug it into your television’s coax port and scan for channels.
