How to Watch FOX Live Without Cable

Independently owned and reader-supported, The Cord Cutting Report offers in-depth, hands-on testing of TV-related products and services. Learn about our ethics and review process in our review policy and how we may earn affiliate commissions.

For over thirty years, FOX Broadcasting Company has delivered memorable shows and live sports, from “The Masked Singer” to NASCAR, NFL, college football, and MLB games through its local FOX stations. It remains a staple in American television.

These days, you don’t need a cable or satellite plan to watch FOX live.

You can start watching sports and primetime shows such as “The Simpsons” or “911 Lone Star” for free by hooking up a TV antenna to a Smart TV or non-Smart TV.

Option number two is to try out a live TV streaming service. Hulu + Live TV, Sling TV, YouTube TV, DIRECTV STREAM and Fubo all carry FOX in their channel lineups.

All you need is an Internet connection, and a compatible Smart TV to start streaming FOX within minutes. A Roku, Amazon Fire TV Stick, Apple TV or Google TV hub works as well. A subscription that includes FOX also gives you access to the FOX Sports app, which provides a number of live streams as well.

Either way, cutting the cord from your cable TV provider is getting easier by the day despite which route you take. Here is a rundown of all your choices.

How to Watch Local FOX Stations Live

Currently, Five streaming services offer live TV online with local channels like FOX and NBC and popular cable channels such as CNN and ESPN. FOX does not have its own streaming service, and you won’t find it on smaller services such as Peacock, which offers NBC.

Sling TV offers the most affordable option for streaming FOX live. It’s available in 18 markets. You can also combine Sling TV with a TV antenna to get FOX if you live outside of the 18 markets.

To integrate OTA channels like FOX into the Sling TV app, connect an antenna to an AirTV2 or AirTV Anywhere DVR. Cord-cutters using a just TV antenna can simply plug in their antenna, and scan for channels to start watching FOX.

Hulu + Live TV

Hulu + Live TV has nationwide coverage of local FOX stations.

ESPN, ESPN2, CBS Sports Network and Big Ten Network. A&E, Bravo, Disney Channel, Food Network and HGTV are among Hulu’s popular live TV channels. Hulu only has one live TV bundle.

For $76.99 per month, subscribers get unlimited Cloud DVR to recording sports, news and movies. You can watch live TV on two screens at once. Hulu Live not only offers live TV but also includes full access to ESPN+, Disney+, and Hulu’s on-demand library. While its price is competitive, the inclusion of Disney+ and ESPN+ subscriptions adds significant value.

This year, Sling TV began offering 4K streams for select sporting events on FOX and ESPN. So far, MLB and college football games have been broadcast in 4K and more sports will be added this year. The 4K streams do not cost more, but you need a 4K-supported Roku or Amazon Fire TV.

Sling supports devices like Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, and Apple TV (4th generation). It stands out for no contracts and extra fees, often presenting new offers for customers.

Compared to DIRECTV STREAM, Fubo, or Hulu Live TV, Sling TV offers a selection of national sports channels at a lower cost, though it limits regional sports and local channel coverage.

Hulu + Live TV

Hulu has a massive collection of over 70,000 TV shows, movies, and originals, making it a top choice for over 49.7 million subscribers in the U.S.

This platform offers current series from ABC, FOX and FX along with Hulu Originals like “Shogun,” “Only Murders In The Building,” “Justified: City Primeval,” and “The Bear.”

The service provides a movie library that spans all genres. New subscribers can try Hulu with a 30-day free trial. The platform allows for flexible subscriptions, either monthly or annually, with easy cancellation.

Two main plans are available: an ad-supported option for $7.99 per month ($79.99 annually) and an ad-free plan for $14.99 monthly. Hulu has a lot of TV shows from FOX that you can watch without a cable subscription. It’s ideal for budget-minded consumers who do not need live TV.

How to get a local FOX channel free with a TV Antenna

The most cost-effective way to watch live FOX broadcasts is with a TV antenna.

There are numerous free over-the-air (OTA) channels broadcasting in High Definition resolution such as NBC, CBS, ABC, and PBS. You can also get niche sub-channels such as MeTV, MeTV Toons and ion TV.

If your home is within 30 to 40 miles of broadcast towers, you’re likely able to get these channels, including FOX, with a high-quality antenna. A January 2024 study by Nielsen estimates that roughly 23 million homes in the U.S. are already using a TV antenna to get free channels.

I have been using a TV antenna for years, and see it as a complement to my streaming subscriptions. You can read my hands-on review of testing various TV antennas to learn more about how OTA TV works.

How to Watch FOX on a Smart TV

To watch FOX for free, use a TV antenna with any Smart TV. For live streaming, services like YouTube TV, Hulu Live TV, DIRECTV STREAM, Sling TV, or Fubo are options.

How to Watch FOX on a Computer

Visit FOX.com and sign in with a TV provider account to start watching FOX channels online. Alternatively, use a web browser to access streaming services that offer FOX.

Is FOX on Peacock?

Peacock does not carry FOX. Owned by NBCUniversal, Peacock offers NBC stations and a variety of other content on its Premium Plus plan for $11.99 per month.

Can I Watch FOX on Amazon Prime?

Amazon Prime does not offer FOX shows. However, Prime members have access to a vast selection of movies, TV shows, and Amazon originals.

Can You Watch FOX on Tubi?

Tubi, owned by FOX Corporation, is a free streaming service with some FOX shows, typically older series. It’s the closest you will come to being able to stream some shows from FOX for free. For new shows currently airing on FOX, Hulu’s on-demand plan is a better option.

There is no free streaming option for FOX. You can get a local FOX station for free by using a TV antenna, or you can briefly watch FOX during a free trial of a streaming service such as DIRECTV STREAM, Hulu + Live TV, Fubo or YouTube TV.

I spend hundreds of hours throughout the year conducting hands-on testing of streaming services, including Peacock, DIRECTV STREAM, Fubo, Sling TV, YouTube TV, Hulu Live TV. 1. No. fuboTV streams channels that you’d typically see in a cable TV or satellite TV package such as FOX News, A&E, HGTV, etc. You’ll need an Internet connection and a streaming device like a Roku or Fire TV to watch your channels on a television.

A TV antenna would be for local over-the-air channels such as NBC, PBS, CBS, ABC and FOX (assuming you are in range of local broadcast towers). You can find the antenna guide at the top of the page for more tips on picking an antenna if you decide to go that route.
