Two cheapest options for streaming History Channel
For those focused on cost-effectiveness and direct access to History Channel, frndly TV and Philo are the two cheapest options.
Philo, at $25 per month, not only includes History Channel but also offers a diverse lineup of over 72 channels, combining affordability with a wide selection. Its unlimited DVR is a significant plus for anyone who loves History Channel’s hit series like “The Curse of Oak Island.”
On the more affordable end, Frndly TV starts at just $7.99 a month, offering History Channel along with 50 other channels. It’s an unbeatable option for viewers watching their spending without sacrificing variety.
Both Philo and Frndly TV are praised for their user-friendly interfaces and reliable streaming. While Philo is a little more polished, both services make streaming History Channel an intuitive experience, especially if you are used to a cable provider’s channel guide.
They offer a simple, contract-free approach to enjoying your favorite documentaries and shows like “Alone” and “The Secrets of Skinwalker Ranch.” I’ve personally tested each of these streaming services for their live TV lineups, on-demand library and recording options.
For those cutting the cable cord, it’s important to consider each service carefully, especially if you’re interested in adding local channels to your lineup, which could increase your costs.
DIRECTV STREAM: Watch History Channel Without Cable
DIRECTV STREAM offers a few ways to stream the History Channel live without a traditional cable subscription. This service is often compared to its satellite service, sharing a common channel lineup with slightly different pricing.
The Entertainment plan is the entry-level plan priced at $79.99 per month. Subscribers can not only watch the History Channel, but tune into over 75 other live TV channels such as HGTV, A&E, CNN, and sports favorites like ESPN.
Local channels such as ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX are in the plan as well.
All DIRECTV STREAM packages include unlimited Cloud DVR and a vast selection of on-demand movies and shows.
Sports fans can tap into national and regional sports networks with the Choice package at $108.99 per month. With 40 regional sports channels across the U.S., including Bally Sports networks and NBC Sports, it’s a must-have for MLB and NBA fans. The Choice plan has over 105 channels in total.
DIRECTV STREAM maintains a no-contract policy, allowing for month-to-month subscriptions with the freedom to cancel at any time. While DIRECTV STREAM presents a robust selection for streaming popular History Channel shows, its pricing may prompt viewers to consider other services.
Budget-conscious individuals looking to stream History Channel content might explore more affordable options like Frndly TV and Philo, which offer competitive rates and HD quality streaming of the History Channel.
A free 5-day trial gives potential subscribers a no-risk opportunity to test the service.

While Frndly TV ranks high for affordability and accessibility, it’s essential to note the Basic plan streams in Standard Definition (SD), a potential downside for viewers who value picture clarity. Philo: Affordable Streaming with History Channel and More
Philo is a budget-friendly platform for streaming the History Channel live along with a wide array of entertainment-focused networks. Offering over 70 TV channels such as A&E, AMC, BBC America, Discovery, and MTV, Philo caters to anyone who wants a variety of entertainment-focused cable networks without the need for local or sports channels.
Priced at $28 per month, Philo’s single package includes unlimited DVR in the cloud. The cable networks also include Animal Planet, BET Her, and the Smithsonian Channel, among others. Subscribers also get AMC+, which carries movies and series from AMC+, Sundance Now, and Shudder.
Philo offers add-on options like MGM+ for an additional $6 per month, which includes MGM+, MGM+ Hits, and MGM+ Marquee as live TV channels.
The STARZ add-on at $10 per month provides channels such as STARZ, STARZ Encore, and STARZ Kids & Family.
A key feature of Philo is the TV Everywhere access, which allows subscribers to use their Philo credentials to stream live channels and access on-demand content across various devices. This gives Philo subscribers another way to tap into live streams, on-demand shows and movies both at home and on the go.
Philo offers significant value at a lower cost compared to alternatives like DIRECTV STREAM. However, it’s worth noting that Philo’s focus on entertainment and lifestyle channels means sports fans may need to look elsewhere for comprehensive sports coverage.
For those seeking an economical way to watch the History Channel and other popular networks, Philo presents a compelling package. Its lack of sports channels is a calculated trade-off that benefits viewers more interested in entertainment and documentary content.

On the other hand, Sling Blue offers 40 channels for $45 per month, featuring networks like Bravo, Cartoon Network, and the NFL Network, making it suitable for those seeking more variety, including sports and news.
Combining both Sling Orange and Blue for $55 per month maximizes the channel lineup, allowing subscribers to enjoy a comprehensive mix of over 50 channels along with 50 hours of Cloud DVR storage.
Sling TV’s appeal lies in its add-on bundles, such as the Hollywood Extra and Lifestyle Extra, priced at $6 per month each. These bundles enhance the core packages by adding niche channels like REELZ, TCM, and Magnolia Network, offering specialized content for movie buffs and lifestyle enthusiasts.

Methodology
I spend hundreds of hours throughout the year conducting hands-on testing of streaming services, including Peacock, DIRECTV STREAM, Fubo, Sling TV, YouTube TV, Hulu Live TV. I do the same rigorous testing for TV antennas and TV-related hardware. Check out the review policy to see how I compare products and services. Fubo just took History, A&E, Lifetime off of their list of channels effective 6/30/21 with no advanced warning. Looking for another streaming company now. Ever since FUGO went public (stock exchange) they have made 3 big changes, History channel was the last straw!
I’m like the ones complaining that there’s still a need for another service provider, why?!? Why can’t A&E come out with it’s own “Plus” app that includes the Discovery networks AND has Live TV channels, especially if they air before the stupid so called service providers, which don’t provide the service I, for one, want, such as NO FREAKIN SPORTS! I have my own balls, I don’t need to watch a bunch of over paid f@g$ running around chasing after each other’s in a field/court! I NEED REAL ENTERTAINMENT, which to me is watching Ancient Aliens, The Curse of Oak Island, and Scientific shows from Science channel. Other’s in my household like the Lifetime networks and Hallmark channels, when we’re not watching movies. An app similar to Discovery+ with live channels would be perfect even if the price for no commercials went up to $12/month especially if I could bundle it with HBO MAX and EPIX add-ons for a complete package.
You neglected to mention that Philo has intrusive commercials that waste a large amount of time, while flashing bright lights at your face. Had I known this, I’d have never signed up. No way am I paying cash to be subjected to that crap.
I like Ancient Aliens as well NOT on list
History Vault is 100% the better deal compared to a tv subscription which is overkill and expensive
The Curse of Oak Island is NOT available.
I just want to get History channel audio on my computer… The nursing home where I live gets History TV but my room mate watches other shows.. How can I get the audio from history channel
so I can use my head phones connected to the computer ?
What is the difference between cutting the cord with cable or paying for a streaming service, it is still a monthly fee and you still need the cable company for high speed internet, looks like smoke and mirrors to me.
Depending on your favorite. History channel shows, Roku channel app does carry several Free shows such as American Pickers, Oak Island and others. The Roku app is free of any charge and provides many favorite TV shows along with free movies. You can also sub to HBO, Showtime, Cinemax and Starz right on the Roku app. *note, you need an active free Roku account with a payment option included which includes PayPal option. Roku offers many more channel options.
100% agree Les. I was a DirecTV customer for over 10 years and they used to have excellent customer service. Since they became AT&T, their customer service has vanished. They finally priced me out so I called to cancel and while they were processing my request and I asked, “Are you even going to try and retain me” and the answer was “not really.”
ATT KILLED DTV.
I was a DTV subscriber and a FAN
OF THAT ONCE GREAT SERVICE. I divorced last week when they stopped the Blue Heart (discount for legacy).
DTV is out of business and will end up merged with DISH.
ATT are just financial SHARKS that play with their food before eating it.
This is why the FCC should stop these ruinous mergers that DO NOT serve the public interest.
HOPE YOUTUBE TV WILL BE THE ONE FOR ME.
NEEDS HISTORY and SCIENCE CHANNELS.
Directv Now is NOT Directv. Both are owned by AT&T, but one is a streaming serice and one is a tv service. I had Directv for years, but recently cancelled my account and signed up with Directv Now. Pretty much the same channel assortment, but 50% cheaper. Now I get my tv shows via the internet instead of from the satellite dish.
I have been watching locked up abroad
In our capitalistic free market economy “Let the buyer beware” is the best advice. Noone provides free TV. You can be sure they will get their hands in your bank account somehow. The trick is to figure out what “the catch” is before you swallow the bait. And that is becoming very difficult with modern technology e.g. streaming plans.
I have a fire stick hooked up to the big monitor. Then I use my tablet to get fire stick big and type in Histoory channel.
Then they say with your internet service History is free. I can’t find mainstream on the list, what should I do now. I’m a prime member. Joy Bradford
why can’t you just get the history channel. dont want the others. disappointed
For these services you have to have your own streaming device, then the “subscription” is monthly. How would you buy the service w/o a “subscription”? It is exactly like the Netflix “subscription”. Hope this helps clear up any ambiguity about it.
How on earth is this corcutting? All of these options require a subscription.
EXACTLY!
I will resort to smoke signals before I ever sign up with Direct TV on any basis again. The WORST customer service in the world.
Just FYI, the most popular show on History isn’t even listed here: that would be “Alone.”
