MSG Network, a linchpin in regional sports broadcasting, is accessible a number of different ways without traditional cable or satellite service.
As a vital channel for New York and New Jersey sports fans, MSG Network and its sibling MSG+ cover teams like the New York Knicks, New York Rangers, New York Islanders, New Jersey Devils, and more.
Despite being elusive on some platforms, cord-cutters can stream MSG Network live through Fubo, and DIRECTV STREAM. Local fans can also choose a standalone MSG+ subscription for $29.99 per month.
These streaming services are available to local fans, and offer a flexible way to enjoy extensive sports coverage within New York, northern and central New Jersey, southern Connecticut, and northeastern Pennsylvania.
In-market NHL fans looking for a cost-effective way to watch New York Rangers, Islanders, or Buffalo Sabres games might consider a combination of Sling Orange and a standalone subscription to MSG+. Here’s why:
Sling Orange provides access to ESPN and TNT. When combined with an TV antenna for ABC games, you are covered for a significant portion of national broadcasts. Sling Orange is priced at $40 per month and is one of the more affordable live TV streaming services, offering not just sports coverage but also a range of entertainment and news channels.
Adding a standalone MSG+ subscription, available for $29.99 per month, ensures that fans don’t miss any of the in-market games broadcast on MSG Network. This combination covers a wide array of games, from in-market games to national headliners.
The total cost for Sling Orange ($40) and MSG+ ($29.99) comes to around $69.99 per month.
ESPN+ is another affordable option, at $10.99 per month, if you live outside of the home market of the Rangers, Islanders or the Devils and Buffalo Sabers.
- DIRECTV STREAM Choice Plan: $108.99 per month, offering MSG Network, TNT, ESPN, and a comprehensive lineup of other channels, including regional sports networks. While more expensive, it’s a one-stop solution for extensive sports and entertainment coverage.
- Fubo Pro Plan: $79.99 per month plus a regional sports fee $14.99. The Pro plan has a wide array of sports channels including MSG Network and ESPN, but lacks TNT. Fubo’s strong suit is its broad sports coverage, yet the absence of TNT might be a drawback for some NHL fans. Fubo offers a free trial.
Considering these prices, the combination of Sling Orange and MSG+ for a total of $69.99 per month offers a competitive and potentially more economical alternative.

he National Hockey League and ESPN have updated the 2023-24 NHL regular-season schedule, adding three national exclusive games to the ABC schedule. Of particular interest to fans of New York and New Jersey teams are the following games:
- New York Rangers vs. Philadelphia Flyers – This game is scheduled for Saturday, February 24, at 3 p.m. ET. The New York Rangers, tied for first in points in the Eastern Conference, will face the second-ranked Philadelphia Flyers, led by former coach John Tortorella.
- Carolina Hurricanes vs. New Jersey Devils – Scheduled for Saturday, March 9, at 12:30 p.m. ET, this game features the Carolina Hurricanes taking on the New Jersey Devils in what is described as a closely contested points race in the Metropolitan Division.
Please be advised that you can only get MSG on fubotv if you RESIDE within the NY viewing area. If you live in Illinois (like I do) it is not available as part of their offering.
I have YouTubeTV and it’s not only missing MSG, but the YES Network, also. They had a dispute right about when Covid hit and never resolved it. I’m a Mets fan and get SNY… but if I were a Yankees fan, the lack of YES would be a total non-starter for me.
Buffalo Sabres games carried by MSG are also missing on YouTubeTV, bummer!
