Utah Hockey Club fans have a few ways to watch games without cable during the 2024-2025 season.
The team, formerly known as the Arizona Coyotes, has adopted a new hybrid distribution model with free over-the-air broadcasts and paid streaming options. Local fans can use a TV antenna to watch UHC games for free, or you can subscribe to UtahHC+, the team’s new streaming service.
This setup emerged after the collapse of many Regional Sports Networks (RSNs) across the U.S.
Local Broadcasts on Utah 16 (KUPX-TV)
UHC fans in the local market can watch games for free with an over-the-air antenna. These games will be broadcast locally on Utah 16 (KUPX-TV).
If you live within 20 miles or less of KUPX, you can probably use an indoor leaf-style antenna from Mohu or Antennas Direct. You will want a medium-gain indoor TV antenna.
Gain measures an antenna’s signal boost, usually between 5 to 15 dB. Choose antennas in this range. Avoid low-gain options like bunny ears.
An outdoor antenna will always give the best reception. You can try an outdoor antenna in your attic instead of mounting it on a roof.
The local broadcast includes pre-game and post-game shows, just like when the Coyotes were on cable TV. Games exclusively broadcast nationally are not available on Utah 16.
This is a big shift from last season, when the team was still the Coyotes. The current agreement between Scripps Sports and the Utah Hockey Club was made before the team’s relocation to Salt Lake City.
National Broadcasts
The Utah Hockey Club will appear on national broadcasts seven times this season— four times on ESPN platforms (including ESPN+ and ESPN2) and three times on TNT.
UtahHC+
UtahHC+ is the team’s dedicated streaming service. It offers over 75 Utah Hockey Club games and exclusive content. Subscription options include monthly, annual, and single-game packages.
A subscription to UtahHC+ is $69.99 per year, or $14.99 per month. Fans can also skip a regular subscription and pay $5 per live game.
Fans can also subscribe to SEG+, which bundles UtahHC+ and Jazz+ (covering the Utah Jazz). This is a great option for fans who want access to both teams.
Smith Entertainment Group, the owner of both the Utah Jazz and the Utah Hockey Club, launched UtahHC+ as a direct-to-consumer streaming option. SEG+ provides combined access to content from both teams.
Former NHL player Tyson Nash has joined the UtahHC+ broadcast team as a personality and analyst. After 14 seasons as a broadcaster for the Arizona Coyotes, Nash will now contribute to UtahHC+, host alternative broadcasts, and serve as a guest analyst for pre- and post-game shows.
Out-of-Market Utah Hockey Club Fans
If you live outside of the Utah Hockey Club’s broadcast territory, you can still watch games through streaming services.
The primary option is subscribing to ESPN+, which provides access to most of the games, along with nationally broadcast matchups.
Fans outside the market need to subscribe to ESPN+ to watch Utah Hockey Club games. A subscription costs $11.99 per month.
Nationally broadcast games will air on ESPN, ABC, TNT, and SportsNet in Canada.
Subscribers can watch ESPN+ through the ESPN app across supported Smart TVs and major streaming devices such as Roku and Amazon Fire TV.
It’s worth noting that some games may still be exclusively broadcast on national networks like ESPN, TNT, or ABC, depending on the NHL’s national broadcast schedule.
