The Bear is a new FX show that follows the story of Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto, a young, fine-dining chef who returns to Chicago to take over his family’s Italian beef sandwich shop after his brother’s suicide.

The show has been praised for its realistic portrayal of the restaurant industry. Hulu is the exclusive home to The Bear, but it’s not your only option for watching every episode.

What is The Bear about?

The Bear, now streaming Season 2, has been praised for its complex characters and sharp writing.

Jeremy Allen White stars as Carmy, and he gives a tour-de-force performance as a young chef who tries to mold the “The Original Beef of Chicagoland” into a top restaurant.

Transforming the old family sandwich shop into a top-tier eatery is far from easy. In each episode, Carmy argues with and works alongside his inherited restaurant crew. White’s performance captures Carmy’s grief, anger and determination to succeed.

The supporting cast is excellent. Ebon Moss-Bachrach plays Richard “Richie” Jerimovich, the manager of the restaurant.

Ayo Edebiri stars as Sydney Adamu, an inexperienced sous chef that shows promise under Carmy. Lionel Boyce is Marcus Brooks, a bread maker under Carmy’s tutelage. Abby Elliott plays Carmy’s sister Natalie.

And there’s Liza Colón-Zayas, who plays the stubborn line cook Tina Marrero.

The Bear is not an easy show to watch. It is often dark and intense, and it deals with some difficult subjects. But it is a deeply rewarding show imbued with humor. Most Season 2 episodes are named after a food or dish such as “Pasta”, “Sundae” and “Honeydew.”

If you are a fan of food shows or workplace dramas, then The Bear is definitely worth checking out.
