Watch AFC Championship online or live stream

With the AFC Championship looming, it’s an open question whether New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady will play with an injured hand. The Jacksonville Jaguars put up a strong defense this season, but is it strong enough?

The answers will only be resolved at game time. Figuring out how to watch the AFC Championship game is something you can quickly do right now. There are a number of ways to watch the game for free. Here’s a quick look at all your options.

When is the AFC Championship game?

Watch Patriots vs Jaguars free with a TV antenna

The first option you should consider if you’re not too close to kickoff is using a TV antenna to get CBS. Using an antenna gets you the AFC Championship and lots of other programming free for life. And your picture quality will be HD. A local cable company can’t even get picture quality that rivals digital signals captured by an antenna. That’s because cable providers have to compress those same signals to feed it through a cable cord into your home.

So do yourself a favor and get an antenna. These days, I’ve been using an Antop Smartpass, which comes with an LTE filter and an amplifier.

If you go the antenna route, chances are you will already be setup to watch SuperBowl LII on NBC.

There are two free online tools you can use, Antenna Web and TVFool, to find out if there’s a CBS broadcast tower near you.

Read my guide: How to Choose the Best TV antenna & DVR for free tips on how to get over-the-air (OTA) channels. You might not live in an area where you can get antenna channels. If so, keep reading. There are plenty of other alternatives to cable to get a live stream of the game to your TV or iPhone.

CBS All Access: AFC Championship live stream

CBS All Access offers a live stream of CBS in 184 markets, and all of its shows on-demand the day after the live broadcast. A subscription costs $5.99 per month, and you can check out a free trial of their service.

CBS All Access is home to exclusive shows like Star Trek Discovery and No Activity. Some subscribers have complained about the picture quality of the streams. CBS All Access streams in 720p, which is the same picture quality as most live TV platforms served over the Internet.

The online A/V magazine Audioholics found that “most of its programming displays at a soft 480p.” And The Verge found the picture quality wasn’t all that reliable either.

That said, there are a lot of fans who use this service. So I’m just giving you a heads up Subscribers can stream up two shows simultaneously on separate devices. CBS All Access let’s you try out its service free for a week.

Patriots vs Jaguars live stream with DirecTV Now

DirecTV Now will let you watch a live stream of the AFC Championship no matter where you are. You could be standing on a street corner watching Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles do his thing. Likewise, you could be chilling at home watching the championship game unfold using a Roku.

About 70 percent of U.S. TV-watching households can watch local channels like CBS, ABC, NBC and FOX through DirecTV Now. If you’re not sure whether these local channels are offered where you live, you can easily check with DirecTV Now’s local search tool.

CBS is available across all four channel bundles offered by DirecTV Now. The least expensive bundle is $35 per month. The “Live a Little” bundle gives you 60+ live channels, including AMC, Animal Planet, History, HGTV and Viceland. Subscribers can access to about 54 TV Everywhere apps for CBS Sports, WatchESPN, FOX Now and Spike.

Just about every streaming device has a DirecTV Now app, including Roku, Amazon Fire TV and Apple TV. You can cast a DirecTV Now app to Chromecast and NVIDIA Shield TV. The only drawback you should be aware of is that DirecTV Now doesn’t have Cloud DVR yet.

Tap into a free 7-day trial to watch the AFC Championship. Just make sure you cancel before the trial ends if you don’t want to keep the service.

If you want to set yourself up to watch Super Bowl LII, subscribe to DirecTV Now and get a free streaming device in the process. If you prepay for just one month of a subscription, then you get a free Roku Streaming Stick. You can also get a free Apple TV by prepaying for four months of a subscription.

Subscribing to DirecTV Now will get you an NBC live stream in most markets, which you will need for Super Bowl LII on Feb. 4.

Watch AFC Championship online with fuboTV

fuboTV, the sports-first streaming platform, expanded their NFL coverage quite a bit this past year by adding more than 45 local CBS stations across the U.S. CBS Sports Network, NFL Network, PAC-12 Network and Big Ten Network are part of the 70+ channel package called Fubo Premier.

Look over all the markets where fuboTV offers a CBS live stream.

If you’re considering a free trial of fuboTV, you might as well get a nice bonus by including Showtime for free.  The free trial lasts for a week. Just be sure to hop back online and cancel before the trial ends to avoid getting billed if you don’t want the service.

The Premier channel bundle also has A&E, History, Bravo, HGTV, Food Network and Travel Channel. So you’ll be able to watch popular shows like Live PD and House Hunters. Soccer fans will get to watch all the matches they want with beIN Sports. fuboTV offers 30 hours of DVR space to record games, and you can also use the on-demand feature called “Lookback” to watch games that aired within the last 72 hours.

fuboTV works on Amazon Fire TV, Roku and Android TV devices like NVIDIA Shield TV. You can also watch the Patriots face off against the Jaguars live from a PC. There is also a fuboTV mobile app for iPhone and Android smartphones.

Check out fuboTV free for 7 days so you can get a live stream of the game. New subscribers pay only $19.99 for the first month. After that, fuboTV costs $39.99 per month. Showtime costs an additional $10.99 per month.

A fuboTV subscription also gets you access to TV Everywhere apps for more than 30 networks.

AFC Championship Live Stream on PlayStation Vue

I was a longtime subscriber to PlayStation Vue until recently, and they provide a very solid service. PS Vue has CBS in select markets across the U.S.

A CBS live stream is available on the Access channel bundle for $39.99 per month. The Access plan gives you 48+ live channels. Bravo, CNN and National Geographic are among the channels in this package. A limitless Cloud DVR feature is offered as part of your subscription.

PlayStation Vue works on Roku, Amazon Fire TV and Android TV devices. You can also stream it on a PC. One drawback you should be aware of is that you will need to watch the game at home. PlayStation Vue offers a free 5-day trial.

YouTube TV: Watch AFC Championship live online

YouTube TV made it a priority to include local channels when it began expanding its coverage across the U.S. So chances are you’ll be able to find a CBS live stream in many markets. You will get 40+ channels for $35 per month. The live streaming platform started out with just support for Chromecast and Apple TV via AirPlay.

So if you’re a Chromecast or iPhone user, you can take advantage of YouTube TV’s free 14-day trial, and watch the Patriots go head to head with the Jaguars on Sunday. YouTube TV now has apps for a number of Smart TVs that operate on Android TV software. NVIDIA Shield TV also got its own app. So far, there’s no app for Roku or Amazon Fire TV. You can try out YouTube TV.

Is the AFC Championship game on Sling TV?

No. According to The Chicago Tribune, CBS continues to be very selective about which streaming platforms the company partners with. Sling TV has no agreement to bring CBS to its platform anytime soon, so you’ll have to go elsewhere to watch the AFC Championship.

What’s the best way to watch the AFC Championship?

If you’re not buying an antenna to watch the game, I would go with DirecTV Now as your first option. At the moment, the live streaming platform has widespread coverage of local CBS stations. You’re also getting a lot more versatility because you can watch the Patriots and Jaguars go at it either on your smartphone or on a TV.

You have the option of trying out DirecTV Now free for 7-days. If you’re considering getting a subscription for slightly longer, you can get a free Roku Streaming Stick by prepaying for one month. Prepay for four months and you’ll get a free Apple TV (32GB).

fuboTV is a solid choice if you want to use the Cloud DVR and watch the game later. fuboTV has a free 7-day trial, and you can add Showtime for free as part of the weeklong trial. You’ll also get CBS Sports Network, NFL Network, Big Ten Network, PAC 12 Network, FS1 and FS2.
