What is fuboTV?

fuboTV is a internet-based pay TV service that is also referred to as over-the-top (OTT) streaming services or a multichannel video programming distributor (MVPD).

Its largest customer base is in the U.S., and has expanded service into Canada and Spain.

As of January 2023, fuboTV has 152 live TV channels in the Pro plan. A subscription includes more than 30 free ad-supported streaming television channels or FAST channels.

A subscription includes local broadcast channels such as NBC, FOX, CBS, ABC and CW across the U.S. fuboTV launched on January 1, 2015 as a soccer streaming service, but evolved into a cable TV replacement.

The service has regional sports networks such as Bally Sports, NESN and SportsNet New York.

How much does fuboTV cost?

A subscription to the Pro plan is the entry-level option at $74.99 per month. The Pro plan has 152 live TV channels.

Subscribers can watch live TV on 10 screens at once. Each account gets 1,000 hours of Cloud DVR storage. The Pro plan isn’t your only option for a subscription. The Elite bundle has 213 channels. The Premier package has more than 252 channels including 8 live SHOWTIME channels.

Elite and Premier subscribers have access to some live sporting events in 4K.

There is a standalone Latino bundle, which costs $32.99 per month, and has more than 46 live TV channels in Spanish.

fubo is among the few live TV streaming services left that still offers a free trial similar to YouTube TV and DIRECTV STREAM. fuboTV competes with mostly four other live TV streaming services. YouTube TV has 128 live TV channels and costs $64.99 per month.

Hulu Live TV costs $69.99 per month and includes more than 75 live TV channels along with ad-supported versions of Disney+ and ESPN+.

DIRECTV STREAM has an entry-level price of $74.99 per month. Sling TV has two smaller channel bundles that start at $40 per month.

Local broadcast networks such as ABC, CBS, FOX, CW, Telemundo, UniMás, and Univision are on the Pro plan.

These are the same local affiliates available for free as over-the-air channels and carried by cable TV companies.

MyNetworkTV is currently offered in 10 TV markets, or “Designated Market Areas.”

They include Boston, Dallas-Ft. Worth, Texas; Houston, Texas; Los Angeles, Miami, Minneapolis, New York City, Orlando, Phoenix, and Seattle-Tacoma. If you live in or around one of these cities, then you should be able to get local channels for that market.

fubo carries four independent networks in their respective TV markets; KTXA in Dallas-Fort Worth, KCAL in Los Angeles, WLNY in New York City, and KICU in the San Francisco-Oakland area.

Regional sports channels are available on fuboTV’s Pro plan. This is the latest RSN channel lineup for 2023:

AT&T SportsNet Rocky Mountain may not be available to you if you live in an area where the Colorado Rockies are the only team available.

This area includes the TV markets of Denver, Colorado Springs, Pueblo, Grand Junction/Montrose, and surrounding areas. According to fuboTV’s help page, the network will be added to those markets in the future.

Fubo TV add-on packages

Subscribers can customize their channel lineup with add-on bundles. These are groups of TV channels that you can add to your subscription and cancel whenever you like. Billing runs month to month.

What channels are 4K on fuboTV?

fuboTV has 4K support for a number of live sporting events. Big Ten Network, FOX, FS1 and NBC Sports have all had a selection of live games in 4K. fubo says it has more than 130 events in 4K resolution. The company maintains a 4K schedule for upcoming sports.

4K support used to be available in the Pro plan, but that changed in 2022. Only the Elite plan ($84.99 per month) and Premier plan ($94.99 per month) has 4K programming.

You will need a 4K television, and a streaming device that supports 4K to benefit from the upscaled resolution. fubo says that some 4K programming may require that your TV or display supports HDR10.

It’s important to note that broadcasters are providing upscaled 4K resolution, so it’s not native 4K resolution.

fuboTV is the first live TV streaming service to offer 4K HDR video with the 2018 World Cup. But they are no longer the only game in town. YouTube TV offers a “4K Plus” add-on for $19.99 per month that can be added to the Base plan. YouTube TV’s Base plan is $64.99 per month.

fuboTV app and device support

The fuboTV app is used to watch live channels included in your subscription. The fubo app is supported on most streaming devices, including Amazon Fire TV, Roku, Apple TV (4th Generation, tvOS v 13.0, or higher), and Chromecast with Google TV.

You can watch fuboTV on Smart TVs running on Android TV from Sony, Sharp and TCL. Smart televisions from Sony, Hisense, TCL and Phillips running on Google TV are supported. LG TVs, Samsung Smart TVs (2015 and newer), Vizio SmartCast TV (2016 and newer) have fuboTV apps.

There are mobile apps for iPhones and iPads (iOS v15.0 and higher), and Android smartphones and tablets. Gamers can watch fuboTV on recent Xbox One, Xbox One S and Xbox One X. PlayStation game consoles are currently not supported.

Family Share, simultaneous streams

Pro, Elite and Premier subscribers get Unlimited Screens, which allows 10 simultaneous streams on supported TVs and devices.

fubo began testing out offering more simultaneous streams within the Pro plan in 2021, when it increased the Family Share option that allowed three streams at a time.

Similar to YouTube TV, fubo allows subscribers to create up to six profiles per account. The option allows up to six people in your household to have their own library of recordings, favorite channels and series that they can follow.

How to watch fuboTV on Smart TVs

A number of Smart TVs support the fuboTV app. Here is how to get start watching fuboTV on your Smart TV:

1) Search for the fuboTV app within the app or channel store on your Smart TV.

2) Once the app is downloaded, use your fuboTV account to sign in with a username and password. (You can sign up for a free 7-day trial online beforehand if you don’t already have an account.)

3) If your Smart TV doesn’t support the fuboTV app, plug in a streaming device that supports the fuboTV to a HDMI port on the television.

You can cast fuboTV’s mobile app to any Smart TV that supports Chromecast.

fuboTV DVR

All fuboTV plans in the U.S. come with 1,000 hours of DVR space. The DVR for fuboTV subscribers is Cloud based. You don’t need any DVR hardware to record movies, TV shows or sporting events. fubo is storing your recordings for you on their servers.

fubo-tv-channels-networks

You can set up a recording under the Guide, Shows or Movie tabs. Navigate to the program you want to record and press the ‘OK’ button on the remote control. A window will appear on the right hand side of the screen. Select ‘Recording options’ and choose whether to record a single episode or a whole series.

Your saved programs are in the “My Stuff” tab, where you can manage your recordings, and delete what you don’t want.

fuboTV comparisons

Pricing and channel lineups are two of the biggest differences when comparing fuboTV to its competitors.

YouTube TV has 128 live TV channels in the Base plan, unlimited Cloud DVR and allows for six profiles within a household. YouTube’s live TV service has local broadcast channels, cable sports channels and some RSNs such as NBC Sports. A subscription costs a little less at $64.99 per month. YouTube TV still offers a free 7-day trial.

Hulu Live TV has more than 75 TV channels, unlimited DVR and ad-supported versions of Disney+ and ESPN+. A subscription is $69.99 per month. There is currently no free trial for the live TV package.

Hulu Live carries the entire ESPN family of networks, local broadcast channels and regional NBC Sports channels.

Sling TV remains a good budget option at $40 and carries ESPN and NFL Network, but in two different packages. If you wanted both networks, you would pay $55 per month. Sling TV carries NBC and FOX in a limited number of markets, and no regional sports networks.

DIRECTV STREAM has more than 105 channels in its Entertainment package. Starting January 22, the price increases to $74.99 per month from $69.99. But for regional sports channels, you need the Choice bundle. The Choice plan will cost $99.99 per month starting January 22, a $10 price increase. DIRECTV STREAM offers a free 5-day trial.

For 2023, fuboTV’s Pro plan is likely to become a popular choice for sports fans once it begins carrying the 19 regional Bally Sports networks. These RSNs air the majority of in-market MLB, NHL and NBA games in the U.S.

fuboTV free trial

fuboTV offers a free 7-day trial for new customers. When you sign up for a fuboTV subscription, you automatically get a free trial. You just need an email account, and provide either debit or credit card information.

If you go beyond the free trial period, expect to get billed. When you cancel before the free trial ends, your access to live TV ends. You only get one free trial per account.

How to cancel fuboTV

The easiest way to cancel is by doing it online when you are sitting in front of a computer. Sign in to your fuboTV account, and select the profile of the account owner. Under the “My Account” tab, you can find the option to cancel your subscription.
