How to Activate FOX Sports app on Roku, Fire TV or Apple TV

By Jim Kimble / Updated November 18, 2023

Activating the Fox Sports app gives you access to live streams for FOX-owned channels.

You can use the app to watch live TV channels, including Big Ten Network, FS1, FS2, FOX Soccer Plus, FOX Deportes and even a local FOX station

But there are some caveats, and the FOX Sports app shouldn’t be confused with the now-defunct FOX Sports GO app. Within the world of cord-cutting and streaming, where and how you can watch live sports changes almost annually.

This guide explains where and how you can live stream your favorite sports teams and games on the FOX Sports app and the former FOX Sports GO app (now known as the Bally Sports app).

These TV Everywhere apps are available on Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, Smart TVs and Google Chromecast with Google TV.

What happened to the FOX Sports Go app?

The FOX Sports GO app was renamed to Bally Sports on April 26, 2021.

The re-naming happened because 19 regional FOX Sports networks were purchased by Sinclair Broadcast Group. The regional FOX Sports networks were rebranded to regional Bally Sports networks such as Bally Sports North, Bally Sports Florida, etc.

The FOX Sports GO app was a spin-off born out of the deal between Sinclair and Walt Disney Co. in 2019.

When the FOX Sports GO app was still operational, subscribers to cable or a live TV streaming service could use it to live stream MLB, NBA and NHL games. It was the TV Everywhere app for FOX regional sports networks.

Bally Sports now holds the local rights to those same 42 professional teams, including 14 MLB, 16 NBA and 12 NHL. It requires a pay TV service to activate.

The Bally Sports app is expected to eventually become the new streaming home of a standalone streaming service.

Re-designed FOX Sports app

On July 20, 2020, the FOX Sports app was replaced with a re-designed app simply called FOX Sports. The FOX Sports app still carries live TV channels such as FS1, FS2, Big Ten Network and local FOX stations.

Having access to the live TV channels are handy when you’re away from home and want to watch live sports, including college football, college basketball, MLB, NFL, NASCAR, MLS, WWE, PBC, PBA and Liga MX.

Some sporting events are also offered in 4K HDR10 resolution.
