“Infinite”, starring Mark Wahlberg, debuts June 10

Paramount+ has dropped its price to $4.99 per month, and will add more than 1,000 movies to its streaming service by Thursday.

The new pricing makes Paramount+ a dollar cheaper a month for its entry-level Essential Plan. But new subscribers to Essential will no longer get a live local CBS station. Only the Premium Plan has a local CBS station, along with commercial-free programming, 4K, HDR, Dolby Vision and an extended roster of sports. The Premium Plan costs $9.99 per month.

The change-up in prices and programming may soon be eclipsed by ViacomCBS adding more than 2,500 popular titles to Paramount+ by the end of the summer. It’s starting out by adding more than 1,000 movies by Thursday. The rollout of new films will include the exclusive debut of “Infinite,” a sci-fi action film starring Mark Wahlberg and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Since its launch on March 4, Paramount+ has largely been a streaming hub for TV shows from BET, CBS, Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon and the Smithsonian Channel. It also has a small roster of original series, including spin offs from the “Star Trek” franchise and “The Good Fight”.

Most of the 1,000 films coming to Paramount+ this week are familiar titles. But the company noted that it will also debut “PAW Patrol: The Movie” on Aug. 20, the same day it is released in theaters.

Other movies coming this week include:

  • Action and adventure films: “Terminator: Dark Fate,” “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol,” “Red Dawn,” “Skyfall,” “The Avengers,” “Gemini Man” and “The Rhythm Section”;
  • Critically acclaimed titles: “Rocketman,” “Judy,” “Florence Foster Jenkins,” “The Wolf of Wall Street,” “Revolutionary Road,” “71,” “The Soloist,” “The Birdcage,” “The Full Monty” and “Little Women”;
  • Kids and family movies: “Dora and the Lost City of Gold,” “Sonic the Hedgehog,” “The Addams Family,” “Wonder Park,” “The Adventures of Tintin” and “Charlotte’s Web”;
  • Horror: “Body Cam,” “Saint Maud,” “Crawl,” “Child’s Play,” “Gretel & Hansel,” “Pet Sematary,” “The Prodigy,” “The Haunting,” “Paranormal Activity 3 & 4” and “Arachnophobia”;
  • Comedies: “Like a Boss,” “The Hustle,” “Valley Girl,” “What Men Want,” “Fighting with My Family,” “The Little Hours,” “The Dictator,” “I Love You, Man,” “Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa,” “Tropic Thunder,” “No Strings Attached,” “Hello, My Name Is Doris” and “The School of Rock.”

Live Sports on Paramount+ include NFL and soccer

Paramount’s Essential plan will include live NFL games and more than 1,600 soccer matches each year.

This summer, Paramount+ will have Concacaf Men’s World Cup Qualifiers in June, the start of qualifiers for UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, and UEFA Europa Conference League, the start of Italy’s Serie A season in August, and Argentina’s Liga Profesional de Fútbol, Campeonato Brasileirão Série A, and NWSL regular season competition throughout the summer.

The lower-priced plan will still have coverage for breaking news through CBSN, the company’s digital news service. Existing subscribers to the limited commercial plan will be able to keep their local CBS station.
