Google announced today that YouTube TV customers using Roku will be able to access their live TV subscription from the YouTube app.

The update is expected to become available on the YouTube app within the next few days, “ and we will expand to as many devices as we can over time,” the company said in an email to YouTube TV customers.

The email was sent out to YouTube TV customers on Friday afternoon.

Roku customers will be able to access their YouTube TV account within the YouTube app.

The added feature is the latest salvo in a public fallout between Roku and Google. Roku removed the YouTube TV app from its channel store on April 30 after the company’s distribution agreement expired.

Customers who were already using the YouTube TV app on Roku were allowed to keep watching live TV through their subscription.

By removing the YouTube TV app from its channel store, Roku essentially blocked any new YouTube TV customers from accessing their live TV subscription.

Integrating YouTube TV into the YouTube app kneecaps Roku from limiting any of Google’s live TV customers who use Roku as a primary streaming device.

It’s unclear if Roku will respond as the two sides continue to negotiate.

“We’re still working to come to an agreement with Roku to ensure continued access to the YouTube TV app for our mutual customers,” the YouTube TV Team said in the email. “As of right now, existing YouTube TV members still have access to the YouTube TV app on Roku devices.”

How to Watch YouTube TV on YouTube

Watching YouTube TV on the YouTube app is a simple three step process, according to Google.

  1. Download the YouTube app from the Roku Channel Store.
  2. Scroll down on the left sidebar menu and click on the “Go to YouTube TV” tab.
  3. Sign in to YouTube TV.

Roku users can still cast their YouTube TV account from a smartphone, tablet or computer as well.

  1. These ‘live’ services are a big waste of money IMHO. Pluto TV gives you an experience similar to cable TV without the monthly bill.
