How to Stream Chiefs vs Buccaneers Live Without Cable
Streaming Super Bowl LV couldn’t be easier this year.
That’s because you have three free options to watch the big game that you can test out before kickoff.
So if you have a Smart TV, Amazon Fire TV Stick, Roku, Apple TV or Google Chromecast, you should have everything you need.
A TV antenna is another reliable option, especially if you are without an Internet connection. You just need to be within range of broadcast towers. (See how to check below.) It’s my preferred method to watch the game.
But there are plenty of other cord cutting options worth considering if you don’t subscribe to cable TV, and want some other channels for Sunday’s game.
A number of channels will have pre- and post-game coverage and events surrounding the game, including:
Super Bowl LV events
- Super Bowl Saturday Night (NFL Network): Sat., Feb. 6, 8 PM ET
- NFL GameDay Morning: (NFL Network) Sun., Feb. 7, 9 AM ET
- Puppy Bowl XVII: (Animal Planet) Sun., Feb. 7, 2 PM ET
- Kitten Bowl VIII: (Hallmark Channel) Sun., Feb. 7, 2 PM ET
fuboTV has 120+ channels, and it’s the best choice for watching the game and all the events listed above. The fubo Family bundle has CBS, CBS Sports Network, Animal Planet, all three Hallmark Channels and NFL Network. And there’s ESPN.
Do streaming apps work well during the Super Bowl?
Yes. This week I interviewed Dan Rayburn, an analyst who has spent years working behind the scenes testing out the quality of live streams during Super Bowls for both television networks and third-party companies hired to deliver the game.
Rayburn told me that reports about people losing their live stream during a game have been largely overblown. The culprit for streaming lag or poor performance often has to do with an Internet connection, or a number of other problems outside the realm of the network live streaming the game.
Along with the interview, I added five pro tips for doing a checkup of your Wi-Fi setup before kickoff.
This year’s Super Bowl is expected to draw a record setting viewership. A survey by the National Retail Federation and Prosper Insights & Analytics found that 186.6 million U.S. adults say they plan to tune in to the big game.
But the number of people streaming is likely to be far less, according to Rayburn. And CBS is well acquainted with providing a live stream for the game, Rayburn said. So there shouldn’t be any problems barring a major catastrophe.
How to Watch Super Bowl LV live for free with a TV antenna
Ideally, you might already have a TV antenna around your house that you haven’t hooked up yet.
If you live in an area with broadcast towers nearby, then you can get a local CBS station. You can check by using Antennas Direct free tool for locating broadcast towers.
Just type in your zip code, and you will get a channel list for your area.
Many CBS stations broadcast in 1080i or 720p picture resolution. The picture quality from a TV antenna is generally better than a feed from cable TV because the image doesn’t need to be compressed as much.
Hooking up a TV antenna is a pretty simple process. Just plug in the antenna cord into the coaxial jack on the back of the TV. Under settings, select channel scan for an “TV antenna” or “air TV”.
The scanning process could take between five and 30 minutes. Once the channel scan is complete, you should have some free TV coming into your home.
CBS All Access offers a live stream and on-demand
CBS All Access is your cheapest option to live stream a local CBS Channel.
A subscription costs $5.99 per month. You can sign up for a free 7-day trial.
Subscribers can stream CBS live in 99 percent of the United States. But CBS All Access isn’t just about CBS programming anymore.
In 2021, CBS All Access is going to be rebranded into Paramount Plus. And based on the variety of new programming that’s already on the service, it’s going to have this mini-bundle of on-demand shows from BET, Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon and Smithsonian Channel.
A lot of original series are already on the service, including a remake of The Stand, based on Stephen King’s famous novel.
Subscribers can stream up two shows simultaneously on separate devices. CBS All Access still has commercials despite it being a subscription-based platform. CBS All Access also offers a commercial-free package, but that costs $9.99 per month. It’s a solid alternative to cable if you just want CBS programming and minimize your costs.
CBS All Access lets you try out its service free for a week.
