Mike Tyson vs Roy Jones Jr: How to Watch PPV on a TV

By Jim Kimble on November 28, 2020 11:40 am

How to Watch Mike Tyson fight without cable

Mike Tyson is returning to the boxing ring on Saturday night to fight Roy Jones Jr.

The two boxing legends are not just champions, but hall of fame champions. Their prime fighting days are long behind them. But with shorter rounds and heavier gloves, the world may witness an action-packed matchup between the aging boxers.

The Tyson-Jones fight is a pay-per-view event on Fite.tv, and you can watch the live pre-show for free.

The rules of the Tyson-Jones Jr. fight are structured a little different than a typical professional fight.

Tyson, 54, and Jones, 51, have agreed to fight during 8 two-minute rounds. Tyson and Jones will be wearing 12-ounce gloves instead of 10-ounce gloves. The fight may be shorter than a typical boxing match, but that may force a more intense fight.

According to ESPN, there will be no official judges or official scorecards, so no winner will be announced. The World Boxing Council will have judges working remotely, and will award a belt to the boxer they announce as the winner. Saturday’s matchup is an exhibition fight.

Despite the age of boxers, seeing Tyson and Jones back in the ring should make for a compelling matchup.

Tyson retired in 2005 after losing to Kevin McBride. Jones continued to fight beyond his prime. His last fight was Feb. 8, 2018, which ended in a unanimous decision victory over Scott Sigmon. But Jones hasn’t had a significant win since 2009 when he defeated Jeff Lacy.

“Iron Mike” Tyson has a record of 50-6-0, while “Superman” Jones Jr. is 66-9-0. But the Jones vs Tyson matchup isn’t just about potentially notching another win or maintaining egos. There is a $13 million purse for the fight.

Yahoo Sports reports that Mike Tyson will make $10 million from the fight. Roy Jones Jr. will make around $3 million with at least $1 million guaranteed.
