Mr. Mercedes is a mystery thriller television series based on the Stephen King novel of the same name.

The series had a three season run that started on the now-defunct Audience Network. When the cable network was shuttered, Peacock picked up the series, and produced a Season 3.

What’s Mr. Mercedes about?

Two years after retiring, homicide detective Bill Hodges just wants to rest and forget about his work. But one case still haunts him.

A driver that plowed a stolen Mercedes into a line of people waiting for a job fair was never caught. Brady Hartsfield killed eight people, and wounded many more. And he’s loves taunting Hodges about never getting caught as he takes on an even more ambitious plan of mass murder.

Deciding to act, Hodges undertakes a secret crusade to stop Hartsfield’s latest plan and bring the killer to justice.

Stephen King describes Mr. Mercedes as his first hard-boiled detective tale. The novel was published by Scribner in June 2014 and became an immediate No. 1 New York Times Bestseller upon its release.

Shortly after the novel was published, King announced that Mr. Mercedes was the first of a projected trilogy. The second novel, “Finders Keepers,” was published by Scribner in June 2015, and the third novel, “End of Watch,” was published by Scribner in June 2016.

David E. Kelley wrote and adapted King’s novel for television. You may recognize Kelley’s name because of his network hits like “Boston Legal” and “Ally McBeal.”

Kelley has had some big hits with shows made exclusively for premium networks. He created the HBO miniseries “Big Little Lies” and the excellent series “Goliath” for Amazon Video.

Who is in Mr. Mercedes?

It’s pretty much an all-star cast.

Mr. Mercedes stars Brendan Gleeson as Detective Bill Hodges. Harry Treadaway plays Brady Hartsfield. Kelly Lynch stars as Deborah Hartsfield. Jharrel Jerome (“Moonlight”) plays Jerome Robinson. Scott Lawrence (“Avatar”) is Detective Peter Dixon.

You’ll recognize many more stars once you start watching the series. Even if you’ve never read the novel, it’s a great series to watch.

Where to Watch Mr. Mercedes on TV

Mr. Mercedes is currently available to stream on Peacock. I prefer getting the Peacock Premium plan because it’s the cheapest subscription to watch Mr. Mercedes. It is ad-supported, but has all the same movies, TV shows and originals as Premium Plus.

Peacock

Peacock is a streaming service that offers a variety of TV shows, movies, and original series such as Poker Face, Brave New World and Twisted Metal.

It has two subscription plans: Premium and Premium Plus. The Premium plan costs $5.99 per month. A subscription to Peacock Premium Plus costs $11.99 per month.

Peacock is owned by NBCUniversal, which means that it has a large library of TV shows and programs from NBC, MSNBC, NBC Sports and Telemundo.

You can also stream Hallmark Channel and its two sibling networks Hallmark Movies & Mysteries, and Hallmark Drama live without a cable subscription.

Smart TVs by Samsung, Sony Bravia, Hisense, VIZIO SmartCast TVs, and LG can start watching Mr. Mercedes without a streaming device.

Any Roku device, Amazon Fire TV, Chromecast with Google TV and Apple TV support streaming most streaming services. An iPhone or iPad (with current iOS) can be used to watch Peacock shows.

Mobile devices such as Android smartphones and tablets are supported. Gamers can use an XBox and PlayStation console to watch Mr. Mercedes as well.

  2. The show is excellent, though the did put the stories in the wrong order, season 1 is book 1, Mr. Mercedes. Season 2 is book 3 end of watch, and season 3 is book 2, finders keepers
