How to Watch Super Bowl Live Stream Without Cable

Watch Chiefs vs. 49ers Live Stream

A plan for streaming Super Bowl LIV for free was almost thrown into turmoil due to a last-minute dispute between Roku and FOX Sports.

That’s all cleared up now. So you should be able to live stream Super Bowl LIV for free on the FOX Sports app as planned.

To be clear, the dispute was only between Roku and FOX Sports. So if you owned a Fire TV, Apple TV or other major streaming device, you didn’t have any skin in the game.

But if the history of apps crashing during major sporting events has left you leery, now is a good time to review all your cord cutting options.

A TV antenna or live TV streaming service is still a very reliable way to get FOX for Super Bowl LIV. Kickoff between the Kansas City Chiefs vs San Francisco 49ers is at 6:30 p.m.

My top pick for live streaming Super Bowl LIV is with fuboTV, which will broadcast the game in 4K HDR10.  fuboTV has a free 7-day trial, so you can try out its 100+ channel lineup, deep movie library and on-demand sports feature. You can also double check fubo’s help page for local channels to see if FOX is offered locally.

My other top picks are below.

Do streaming apps work well during the Super Bowl?

Networks have opened up their apps in the past to provide a free Super Bowl live stream, and it hasn’t been an optimal experience for everyone.

A few years ago, viewers using FOX’s live stream of the game complained about problems with the picture during the fourth quarter.

And the year before that, CBS dealt with its share of online mishaps early on during Super Bowl 50. A lot has changed in the last couple of years, but some still believe it’s challenging for these apps to handle the millions of viewers all trying to tune in at once.

Networks are all well aware of the history. And hopefully all will work out well for Super Bowl 2020.

What time does the Super Bowl LIV start?

  • Time: 6:30 P.M. ET / 3:30 P.M. PT
  • Date: Sunday, Feb. 2
  • Channel: FOX
  • Best Live Streams: on fuboTV (free 7-day trial

Watch Super Bowl LIV live for free with an antenna

If you live in an area with broadcast towers nearby, then you can get a local FOX station. Many FOX stations broadcast in 1080i or 720p picture resolution.

The picture quality from a TV antenna is generally better than a feed from cable TV because the image doesn’t need to be compressed.

Using TV antennas are pretty simple. Just plug in the antenna cord into the coaxial jack on the back of the TV. Under settings, select channel scan for an antenna or air TV. The scanning process could take up to 30 minutes, but pretty soon you will have some free TV coming into your home.

Lately, I’ve been using a ClearStream FLEX in one room, and an Antop Smartpass indoor antenna in another. You can check out my guide of How to Choose the Best TV antenna and OTA DVR for more tips.

Watch Super Bowl LIV online on fuboTV

fuboTV carries local FOX stations in most of the U.S.

So there’s an excellent chance that you can use fuboTV to watch the game. If you already own a 4K TV, even better — because fuboTV is the only live TV streaming service that is showing the game in 4K HDR.

Look at their local channels in your area if you want to see if you’re covered.  fuboTV is the first to carry select sporting events in 4K.

NFL Network, Big Ten Network, FS1 and FS2 are part of a 100+ channel bundle. fuboTV has a number of entertainment channels as well, including A&E, Bravo, History, Travel Channel, Viceland and HGTV.

Subscribers also get “look back”, an on-demand library of every sporting event that aired in the last 72 hours. If you want to record something, there’s 30 hours of Cloud DVR storage. fuboTV has apps for just about any streaming device, including Roku, Amazon Fire TV and Android TV devices like NVIDIA Shield TV. You can also watch on an iPhone, PC, or stream by using a Chromecast.

Try out fuboTV free for 7-days. A subscription costs $54.99 per month, but you’ll get $5 off if you keep fuboTV after your free trial. There are no contracts or obligations to keep the service.

Stream Chiefs vs 49ers on Hulu with Live TV

Hulu with Live TV has the most local FOX stations than any other streaming service. It’s my runner up pick because of its widespread availability and features offered to subscribers.

Hulu’s Live TV package has 65+ live channels, including ESPN, FS1 and CBS Sports Network.

You’ll get 50 hours of Cloud DVR, and unlimited access to Hulu’s deep on-demand library that people pay $5.99 and up for. Hulu also lets you activate 38 apps for networks that are part of your subscription.

A subscription costs $54.99 per month, which is as much as most of its competitors that offer only one streaming service.

You can look over what local channels are offered in your area by scrolling to the bottom of Hulu’s screen.

You can watch live TV on two devices at once with a Fire Stick, Roku and Apple TV. Hulu also has apps for iPhone, tablets and Android smart phones.

Watch Patriots vs Rams in the Super Bowl LIII on YouTube TV

YouTube TV has 75+ channels, including local FOX stations across the U.S. You can watch the Chiefs vs 49ers at home on a Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, NVIDIA Shield, or Chromecast. YouTube TV does not have support for Fire TV devices or Fire Sticks.

Viewers can stream on two devices at once. A subscription costs $50 per month and comes with unlimited Cloud DVR.  If you own a NVIDIA Shield TV, you can also use the built-in Chromecast to cast YouTube TV from your smartphone.

YouTube has a really solid service for a decent price. You can read my review of YouTube TV or check out a free 7-day trial.

AT&T TV Now: Watch Chiefs vs 49ers Live Stream

AT&T TV Now has FOX on its entry-level Plus bundle which costs $65 per month.

This live streaming platform is geared towards people that want the option of watching live channels no matter where they are. So if you want to watch the game on your phone, then that AT&T TV Now is a solid choice.

There’s no contract when you sign up for a 7-day free trial. Just be sure to cancel before the trial period ends if you don’t want to keep your subscription.

Is Super Bowl LIV on Sling TV?

Sling TV carries local FOX stations in a number of cities across the U.S. under its Blue channel bundle.

The Blue bundle costs $30 per month. Sling Blue has about 47 channels, including USA Network, NFL Network, HGTV and AMC.

Among live streaming TV services, Sling TV is the cheapest out there that carry local FOX stations in select cities. There’s a free 7-day trial for new customers. Here’s a list of FOX stations carried by Sling Blue.

What’s the best way to watch Super Bowl LIII?

If you don’t want to use a TV antenna or the FOX Sports app, then you have three solid choices that stand out among all the others.

  • fuboTV will be the best streaming service for people who definitely want to watch a live 4K HDR stream without taking chances with free apps. Look over fuboTV’s 100+ channel lineup. The service has proven itself to be a reliable service during huge sporting events like the World Series and World Cup. fuboTV offers a free 7-day trial.
