How to Watch FIFA World Cup free or cheap online

To watch the 2018 FIFA World Cup without cable, you have two choices – watch most of the matches for free, or use a live TV streaming service for cheap to get all 64 matches.

Most people can watch 38 soccer matches on FOX for free, including the first one on June 14 – Russia vs Saudi Arabia – using a TV antenna.

But if you want to see all the matches, you’re going to need sports network FS1.

The best live TV streaming service for most people this year will be Hulu with Live TV. That’s because Hulu’s live TV offering has way more local FOX networks – about 158 – across the U.S. And you’ll get FS1 and Telemundo as part of its regular live TV bundle.

Here’s the other thing.

Not only can you watch Hulu with Live TV on a Roku, Apple TV, or most other streaming devices. You’ll be able to watch live soccer matches using your iPhone or Android smartphone.

A subscription to Hulu also lets you sign in to the FOX Sports Go app, which plans to broadcast all games this year. The FOX Sports Go app can be real handy if you want to live stream World Cup matches while you’re away from home. Try out Hulu with Live TVfor a week, and just cancel online if you don’t want to keep it.

If Hulu with Live TV isn’t for you, keep reading.

This guide aims to be the most comprehensive breakdown of all your choices for watching or live streaming the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Whether you’re rooting for Paul Pogba or Crisiano Ronaldo, you’ll be able to quickly find a way to start watching live soccer before the first two teams step on the field.

Watch 2018 FIFA World Cup free using a TV antenna

If you’ve been a cord cutter for a while, you probably already own or at least know about the value of a TV antenna.

FOX broadcasts uncompressed high definition picture over the air that you can capture by using a TV antenna.

It doesn’t matter if we’re talking about an indoor antenna, or one mounted on your roof. You can even put an outdoor TV antenna in your attic if you don’t want to get on a roof.

Need some guidance? Read my months-long study that resulted in The Best Indoor TV Antennas of 2018. I’m using an Antop Smartpass Amplified Indoor Antenna for watching soccer matches. I also get over-the-air stations for NBC, ABC, PBS and dozens of others.

Those same folks using an antenna will likely be able to pick up Telemundo, which promises 500 hours of FIFA World Cup coverage this year.

If you use a free online tool like AntennaWeb or nocable.org, you can easily find out what channels you may be able to get in your area. More setup instructions can be found at: How to Choose the Best TV Antenna & DVR.

Live Stream FIFA World Cup on Hulu with Live TV

Hulu with Live TV is ideal for most people wanting to live stream World Cup matches because it has the most FOX stations than any other live TV streaming service. FS1 and Telemundo are also part of the Hulu with Live TV lineup.

But there are a few other reasons that makes Hulu with Live TV the best live TV streaming service for World Cup coverage that I didn’t mention above.

Hulu with Live TV has 50 hours of Cloud DVR, and more than 50 live TV channels, including National Geographic, FXM, History and TNT. If you own a streaming device like a Roku or Apple TV, you can use your Hulu account to sign in to 35 TV Everywhere apps including FOX Sports Go. The FOX Sports Go app will have a World Cup live stream showing all matches.

Hulu with Live TV works on most streaming devices, including Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Fire Stick, Apple TV, and Chromecast. There are mobile options like Fire Tablets, iPhones, Android smartphones and iPads. If you own a Nintendo Switch, Xbox 360 and Xbox One, you can watch Hulu with Live TV as well.

A number of live TV streaming platforms cost about $40 per month. Hulu throws you a little extra by giving you unlimited access to its on-demand library that people pay $7.99 and up for. That includes Hulu Originals like “The Handmaid’s Tale”, “The Path” and “11.22.63”. So you’re getting a lot more to watch at the same price as many competitors.

You can try out Hulu with Live TV free for 7 days to see if it’s the right fit for you while you’re streaming World Cup matches. Just cancel online if you don’t like the service.

fuboTV: Watch 2018 FIFA World Cup Online

fuboTV is my runner-up pick for live streaming World Cup matches in 2018. The sports-first streaming service has been well known as the home of soccer since its inception. fuboTV is still among the few streaming services that carries beIN Sports.

fuboTV has the second highest number of FOX stations – covering 91 percent of U.S. households. And they just added a half dozen more in cities like Tuscon, AZ and Knoxville, TN. FS1 and Telemundo is part of its 80+ channel lineup.

PAC-12 Networks, A&E, History, all 10 beIN Sports channels, USA Network and local NBC and CBS stations are part of the lineup. Look over the channel lineup in your area to see if it’s a good fit.

This year, fuboTV will carry all World Cup games in English on FOX and FS1. Spanish broadcasts will be on Telemundo and NBC Universo. fuboTV is also has a few extras while streaming World Cup matches.

  • Matchday bonus feeds bringing fans closer to each game – Match360/Tactical View, two Team Channels, a Highlight Feed and Cable Cam.
  • Extra Content leading up to the World Cup, and throughout the entire month. That includes a feature series called “Phenoms”; a documentary “Nossa Chape” and highlight and magazine shows.
  • Free Cloud DVR with up to 30 hours included in base fubo and fubo Extra packages to record games, especially those early morning kickoffs.
  • 72-Hour Lookback: Missed a game or forgot to DVR? fuboTV provides access to all of the games for up to 72 hours after the original airing time.
  • Starting on June 1, Family Share included in base fubo and fubo Extra packages so everyone in your household can enjoy every goal (up to 3 simultaneous streams).

You can try out fuboTV on Amazon Fire TV, Roku, Android TV devices like NVIDIA Shield TV and Apple TV. During my time as a subscriber, I was pretty happy with the fuboTV mobile app and how well games streamed on a PC. Try out a free 7-day trial. The regular price of $44.99 per month kicks in after that. Don’t like it? Just cancel online before your trial expires.

Watch 2018 FIFA World Cup online with Sling TV

For the cheapest way to get FS1 and FOX, you’ll want to check out the Sling Blue channel bundle. Sling Blue has about 47 channels for $25 per month, including FOX in select markets.

Here’s what you can do if Sling TV doesn’t carry FOX in your area.

Use my methods described above to get FOX on your TV antenna, and start with a free trial of Sling Blue to see if you’re happy with streaming FS1. If you’re looking for coverage in Spanish, remember that Univision and Telemundo are also broadcast over-the-air and can be picked up with an antenna in many markets.

Aside from my antenna recommendations above, you can also get a free indoor TV antenna when you prepay for two months of Sling TV.

Subscribe for three months and Sling TV will give you a steep discount on an AirTV 4K streaming device and indoor antenna. The AirTV puts Sling TV channels, local channels from an antenna and streaming apps like Netflix all in one place. Get the AirTV Bundle for $70 – more than $100 off – when you subscribe to Sling TV.

You don’t really need to do any of this stuff if you just want to see how Sling TV performs. Sign up for a free 7-day trial of Sling TV and start streaming World Cup matches.

PlayStation Vue: 2018 FIFA World Cup Live Stream

PlayStation Vue live streams FS1 and FOX in select markets, so you’ll have the two key channels you’ll need to watch World Cup matches live without cable.

The Access bundle costs $40 per month and has unlimited Cloud DVR. PlayStation Vue works on most major streaming devices including Roku, Fire TV and Android TV devices. You can sign up for free 5-day trial.

DirecTV Now: Watch FIFA World Cup Live Stream 2018

DirecTV Now remains a popular option for live streaming, and has FOX and FS1. The entry-level “Live a Little” package has 60+ channels for $35 per month. DirecTV Now also just released its new Cloud DVR. There are three other channel bundles that range in price from $50 to $70 per month. DirecTV Now offers a free 7-day trial.

YouTube TV: Stream World Cup 2018 live

YouTube TV is another prime option for live streaming FIFA World Cup matches. The live TV streaming platform has roughly 85 FOX stations in the U.S. And you’ll get Telemundo and FS1 in your channel lineup no matter where you live. TNT, CNN, Big Ten Network and BBC America are in the channel lineup. You’re going to get more than 50 channels total, and unlimited Cloud DVR for $40 per month.

YouTube TV works with Roku, Apple TV, and Chromecast for TV. PCs, iOS devices and Android phones can live stream World Cup games too. Try out YouTube TV with a free 7-day trial.

What’s the best way to live stream 2018 FIFA World Cup?

Hulu with Live TV is going to be the best choice for people wanting to watch the FIFA World Cup because it has the most FOX stations than any other live TV streaming service in the U.S.

FS1 and Telemundo are part of its 50+ channel lineup. You’ll get 50 hours of Cloud DVR, so you have plenty of space to record soccer matches that you can’t watch live. There’s access to the FOX Sports GO app. And when you’re not watching soccer, you can tap in the Hulu’s massive on-demand library, including Hulu Originals.

No other live TV streaming service offers so much to watch at $40 per month. Try out Hulu with Live TV free for 7-days. If you don’t like it, just cancel online and try something else in this guide.

fuboTV is my runner up choice because it’s widespread coverage for FOX stations around the U.S. You’ll also get FS1, Telemundo and NBC Universo. The matchday bonus feeds promise to be a pretty neat feature as well. You’ll also have 30 hours of Cloud DVR, and the Lookback feature to catch up on games that aired in the last 72 hours. Try out fuboTV free for 7-days and see what you think.

Need a budget option? Sling TV’s Blue package can get you FS1, and FOX in select markets. Sling TV offers a free 7-day trial, and deals on antennas and streaming devices when you prepay for a brief subscription.
