Live Stream MTV Video Music Awards without cable
Want to watch what’s known as the biggest spectacle of awards season?
If you don’t have a cable subscription, here’s a quick primer to show you how to live stream the MTV Video Music Awards on popular streaming devices like Roku or Amazon Fire TV.
The VMAs are always a star-studded event notorious for drama. This year will be no different when Katy Perry takes over the role of emcee for the night. Despite what producers of the show have been saying, there are a lot of expectations that Taylor Swift and Perry will have some kind of face time together. The two have had a simmering feud that might come to a head or finally be resolved at the awards show.
If drama isn’t your thing, there will be some huge names performing live, too.
Kendrick Lamar, Pink, Demi Lovato and Miley Cyrus are among the 21 acts that are scheduled to take the stage for live performances, according to MTV.com. Lamar’s single “HUMBLE.” is up for 8 awards, the most of any performer. Bruno Mars has four nominations followed by Rihanna for her “Wild Thoughts” video.
When does the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards start?

Best way to live stream: 7-day free trial with DirecTV Now
MTV Live Stream: Who will win at the MTV Video Music Awards?
Odds are Lamar will walk away with the most Moonperson awards, including Video of The Year. You might see DJ Khaled’s “Wild Thoughts” as a dark horse competitor. I could see Bruno Mars getting Artist of the Year simply for being one of the hardest working performers in show business. It would be a fair split between Lamar cleaning up in most categories and Mars being recognized for the immense talent on display during the “24K Magic” video.
Pink is taking home the Video Vanguard Award, which recognizes her 17-year career. A new category “Best Fight Against The System” aims to honor artists that are challenging norms and confronting bias. Nominees in this new category include the Hamilton mixtape and “Black Spider Man” by Logic featuring Damian Lemar Hudson.

Can I live stream MTV Video Music Awards on the MTV app?
Yes. But you will need a cable subscription in order to sign in. MTV will also need to be part of your channel lineup in your cable subscription. So that might not be too helpful if you’re trying to watch the awards show without cable or a satellite TV subscription.

Getting MTV Live Stream for 2017 VMAs
For the purposes of watching the MTV Video Music Awards, new customers can take advantage of a 7-day free trial without any obligation. Just be sure to cancel the trial online well before the trial period is up if you don’t want to continue with the subscription.
You can actually order any channel package that you want for the free trial. Using this method for watching a particular show can also give you a free peek at premium channels like Viceland for about a week. Last time around, I went for the full boat and checked out the “Gotta Have It” bundle, which gives you 120+ channel for $70 per month. Any subscription also gives you access to TV Everywhere apps, which allow you to stream live TV on the go.
If you think you might want to try live streaming a little longer, DirecTV Now is offering a deal where you can get a free Roku Premiere if you prepay for two months of service.
Can I live stream MTV Video Music Awards on Sling TV?
You can, but you will have to sign up for a Sling TV Orange subscription and then subscribe to the Comedy Extra channel bundle. Comedy Extra costs an extra $5 per month.
So it’s not a route to a free MTV live stream.
Sling Orange costs $20 per month for 29+ live channels, but doesn’t include MTV in the standalone lineup. Sling Orange gives you a channel lineup that includes AMC, Comedy Central, Food Network, History Channel and ESPN.
The Comedy Extra bundle has 9 more channels, including MTV, MTV2, TruTV, Spike and El Rey Network. If you are going to actually plunk down money to watch the awards show, here are a couple of promotions that I want to give you a heads up on.
