MLB Network added to PlayStation Vue

MLB Network becomes latest sports channel added to PlayStation Vue

Sony surprised PlayStation Vue customers this week by adding MLB Network to its channel lineup just in time for the World Baseball Classic.

The announcement came roughly three weeks after Sony rolled out a new multi-screen feature on PlayStation 4 consoles. Vue subscribers tuning in to March Madness on their PS4’s got to watch up to three live games at once.

Is Sony focusing more on sports networks in its channel lineups?

It’s an important question for sports fans who want to cut cable from their life. Sony has been quietly regional sports channels in some parts of the country to little fanfare.

One of the most significant additions in New England came in October with the addition of New England Sports Network (NESN). NESN is the exclusive broadcaster of all home games for the Boston Red Sox and Boston Bruins.

For the first time, a region dominated by Comcast had been challenged.

Adding NESN to Vue’s channel lineup meant that die hard Red Sox and Bruins fans had an out when their cable bill got too high.
A friend recently told me that New England had the fewest cord cutters in the U.S. If someone could drill down on the numbers, it wouldn’t surprise me if the Red Sox had a lot to do with that.

Existing Vue subscribers may have benefitted the most from the addition of NESN because it arrived with no extra cost.

The MLB Network was added to three of PlayStation Vue’s channel bundles. The least expensive is the Core bundle, priced in most US cities at $35 per month. With competitor DirecTV Now, you’ll be shelling out $50 per month to get MLB.

Sling TV doesn’t have the channel. And fuboTV, which is breaking out of its sports-first format, doesn’t have the channel, either.

What sports channels are on PlayStation Vue?

The Core and Elite channel bundle on PlayStation Vue have the most sports channels. The best way to check is by going to the PS Vue web site and type in your zip code. That will give you a regional look at

Big Ten NetworkCSN New EnglandESPN,ESPN DeportesESPN2ESPNewsESPN U are all in the Core and Elite channel bundles.

Fox College Sports (Atlantic, Central and Pacific) is included.  FS1FS2PGA Tour Golf,NBC Sports NetworkNFL NetworkOne World Sports, and SEC Network are all on there too. You can also authenticate many apps with a PS Vue subscription.

MLB Schedule 2017

MLB Network will air live games during the upcoming baseball season. But having a regional network like NESN is much needed if you plan to watch home games.

Vue subscribers will now find this season’s MLB Schedule a lot more handy. In New York, Vue subscribers can also watch every Yankees game.

Mets fans aren’t so lucky. They can still subscribe to an MLB subscription online.

Despite all this cheer over more sports channels and multi-screen features, there’s another question Vue customers still have.

Will we ever see the long-promised addition of Viceland?
